Green Footprint
We feel the greatest commitment to farming is holistic management of cattle and the land. Sustainability.
Respect for each other, animals and respect for the environment. We recognise the Wurundjeri and Bunurong original land owners and their outlook on the importance of land.
Our goal is to leave the land in as good or better condition then when we acquired it and create cattle that will perform from organic land.
DNA testing (Genomics) can identify high Feed Efficient cattle which means less energy expended to produce beef. When cattlemen purchase cattle, the main traits they are looking far are Calving Ease and Growth, however Feed Efficiency is now extremely important if Operations are to stay profitable and survive. Previously Feed Efficiency has focused on Feed Lot cattle, but now the focus is on all cattle.
Feed Efficiency will play a huge role in the coming years, and should be considered for the future of the beef industry. And that awesome carcass bulls as Ten-Rose Edgar Allen Poll, Ten-Rose Poll Just In Time and Murrinstone Auscan will come into their own with their record Genomics. Their grand progeny will be created into several programs for the advancement of the breed.
Ten-Rose have developed and fenced off a native reserve on the farm and the following animals are found there. A Federal Native Title is in place which gives protection for the flora and fauna of the Swamp. ** We plan to resow 10,000 native trees over the next few years. 2014, we have planted 500 trees which is the start of the project. The new Bandicoot Corridoor (tree plantation) surrounding the paddocks has began.
We feel it is important to make areas available for the native flora and fauna to live in.
